Tax Data Collection - KYCaaS

SDK Data Collection - New Users

For platforms utilizing zerohash KYC services via SDK, there is no action required on your end to support tax data collection for new enrollments. The participants onboarding via the SDK can expect to find some new data points they'll need to fill out as part of their journey.

Residence and citizenship

zerohash will introduce "Tax Classification" selection on the existing Residence and citizenship screen. This will allow users to select a tax status that best fits them:

( ) I am a U.S. Person - U.S. citizen, resident alien, or other U.S. person. (Form W-9)

( ) I am a Foreign Individual - Non-U.S. person. (Form W-8BEN)

Option 1 - U.S. Tax Certification (W-9)

If the user has identified as a U.S. Person, they will be allowed to continue to a dedicated tax screen capturing the following:

  • Taxpayer Identification
    • Full Legal Name: [ Pre-populated ]
    • U.S. Taxpayer ID (SSN/ITIN): [ *--6789 ]
  • Exemptions (Optional)
    • Exempt Payee Code - [ Dropdown to select code (1-13) ⌵ ]
    • Exemption from FATCA Reporting Code - [ Dropdown to select code (A-M) ⌵ ]
  • Backup Withholding Indicator
    • [ ] I am subject to backup withholding. Check this only if you have been notified by the IRS that you are currently subject to backup withholding because you failed to report all interest and dividends on your tax return.

After the user supplies the above information, they will move on to the final review. The "Under penalties of perjury" language is a strict requirement for a valid W-9:

Certification

"Under penalties of perjury, I certify that:

  • The number shown on this form is my correct taxpayer identification number.

  • I am not subject to backup withholding (unless the box on the previous screen was checked).

  • I am a U.S. citizen or other U.S. person (including a U.S. resident alien).

  • The FATCA code(s) entered on this form (if any) indicating that I am exempt from FATCA reporting is correct.

The Internal Revenue Service does not require your consent to any provision of this document other than the certifications required to avoid backup withholding."
